12 Tips To Help You Get Organized

  1. Organize for reasons that matter to you, not because someone told you to.
  2. Set realistic goals — don’t try to do everything at once.
  3. Break up large tasks into smaller ones.
  4. Keep a to-do list & put it in a highly visible place.
  5. Set deadlines when creating to-do's — things are more likely to get done if you have committed to a date.
  6. Get a calendar or appointment book (electronic or paper) & use it!
  7. Assign a set amount of time to work (½ hour, 45-minutes, etc.) and commit to that amount of time. Say it aloud and set a timer. When the timer goes off — stop working. You’ll be amazed at how much you can get done when there is an end in sight.
  8. Color code files for quick identification (kids, credit cards, finances).
  9. Treat email as you would paper documents. Keep only the ones you need and file them with the same filing system you use for your paper documents.
  10. Don’t use paperclips in your files — either they don’t stay on or they catch on to more papers.
  11. Put away as soon as you’ve cluttered — this one is the hardest of all!
  12. Open mail in the same place every day & near a garbage can!
